Watching Your Salt Intake

It wasn't until someone very close to me encountered heart failure that I really started to understand about the foods we eat and salt intake. However, after reading the medical reports and the doctors recommendations with regards to salt intake. I came to understand that we daily take in a whole lot of salt and many times without even knowing it.

You see for a person dealing with heart failure, 2000 mg of salt each day is the limit. Anything past that and it can have drastic affects.

Now for the reality check. Check your daily salt intake for breakfast, lunch, dinner and all the snacks that you eat and you will be shocked. The average fast food meal runs 1,200 to 1,500 mg of salt per meal. The average restaurant meal runs about the same and sometimes higher. The average morning, lunch and dinner can run upwards of 3,500 to 4,000 mg of salt for home cooked meals.

You might be saying I don't have heart problems. That may be true, however go read about the affects of salt on our heart and health.

This page is very informative which shares, Nutrition And Diet and the following page shares lots of information about Lower Salt Intake. Check out the following page at Salt And Heart Disease for further information. Remember, being educated about these matters will help us all to live healthy lives.

The Importance Of Eating Healthy Foods

It's important to eat right and eat healthy foods. Back about a year ago my wife caught a virus that attacked her heart and placed her in the hospital. The virus damaged her heart mussel which left her diagnosed with heart failure and a pacemaker. Life dramatically changed.

Since then we have come to understand many things about the foods that she can eat and the foods that she can't. Within this, we have also learned what foods are best for her condition and heart. This further educated us in understanding the importance of eating healthy foods for our entire family.

Thanksgiving Dinner & Your Health

I don't know if your like me, however at Thanksgiving I have a tendency to set my diet aside and make up for losses which usually leads to eating just a tad too much. This year I am making a conscious effort to apply some balance and not become the human garbage disposal.

I've decided to enjoy a nice salad and of course a nice plate of the thanksgiving dinner less second and quite possibly thirds without some late midnight snacks. Of course it's up in the air at this point on the Punkin pie with wip cream.

Join me in eating healthy by eating less. Watch your salt intake and drink lots of water.
